Local Artist Brad Stroman Receives National Attention
Contact:  Lisa Bedenbaugh 717-367-9236 for photographs and more information

Brad Stroman recently had two acrylic paintings accepted into two different prestigious national art exhibitions.  His one painting, “October Fire,”  recently hung in the 34th Annual National Painting Show at Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA.  His other work, “Native American Effigy,” is being shown at the National Juried Art Exhibition on Hilton Head Island, SC.  Over 660 entries from 316 artists nationwide vied for inclusion in the South Carolina show.  Stroman’s painting was not only selected, but was also awarded Honorable Mention in the oil and acrylic category.

A widely acclaimed contemporary realist, Stroman achieved national attention for his work as a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America and was awarded Signature Status in 1999 for his accomplishments.  In 1998 his work was among the top award winners for the sixth annual CPSA exhibit in Arlington, Virginia and was published in American Artists magazine.  A finalist in the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation’s  “Teachers as Artists Summer Program” in 1990 at Colorado College, Colorado Springs, Stroman was one of six nationally chosen participants.  Each artist was given a studio and 2 ½ weeks to produce work for a culminating show.

Most notable is Brad Stroman’s lifelong commitment to art education in the Lower Dauphin School District, where for thirty years he has nurtured and promoted the talents of the district’s young artists.  Stroman has been named to Who’s Who Among American Teachers three times in the last decade.  Inclusion in this volume is an honor bestowed on teachers solely through the nomination of former students who themselves are promising scholars.

Mr. Stroman recently exhibited in a one-man show titled “Sticks and Stones, Leaves and Bones” at Lancaster Galleries West in Elizabethtown.  The exhibit featured his interpretation of the “delicate balance between man and nature, and the inherent alteration of natural beauty at the hand of man.”  He resides with his family in Mount Joy and continues to teach and exhibit new work both locally and nationally.

Brad Stroman’s work is regularly exhibited at Lancaster Galleries West, 117 S. Market Street in Elizabethtown, and at Lancaster Galleries, 34 N. Water Street in downtown Lancaster.  For more information, please call the gallery at 717-367-9236.
