"I strive to create work that is more about presence and the substance of a place than a photo-realistic rendition of it.
The light, the feel of the air - late summer evenings are my favorite subjects. Painting is simply the language I use
to communicate. More recent work is not as tightly executed but the emotional substance is still there." R. Heilman 2006
