THRU DECEMBER 4
at Penn State University's Robeson Gallery, University Park, Pennsylvania - traveling to Lynden Gallery in January 2006
JIM BRIGHT and JOANNE LANDIS
Artist's Reception September 30 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm

The works of Joanne Landis and Jim Bright connect through their shared interest in the figure and its space. Landis works exclusively with the figure, her main interests lie in the interactions between the physical and mystical, the internal and external. She works to create an environment which mirrors that of the internal geography of the figure with which she is working. Landis attempts to "capture a moments worth of images into a single intriguing story. I hope people can see stories in my work, because stories are the way that I attach myself to the world." Sculptor Jim Bright calls Central Pennsylvania home. It is here that he combines "passages from both organic and figurative sources in the same sculpture." He draws on a combination of nature and human interactions as initial inspiration and then allows these sculptures to grow into interesting interactions of positive and negative space. Bright says: "It is my hope that those who see my sculptures will gain some sense of the enjoyment and wonder I feel as I continue to study, work, and live in central Pennsylvania."   Ann Shields, Curator the HUB-Robeson Galleries

Usually painting "on the spot" or alla prima, most of the work is finished entirely in one sitting,
tho at times begs to be revisited in the studio. The paintings begin with assured, confident
graphite sketches, illustrating more than just the lines and shapes of the objects before her...
